It is tough, indeed, and you are quite close, actually, I think. You guessed the structure, so to say.
I would guess bubbles in a soda glass … until I saw photo #3. It’s a glittery something. 🙂

So the right answer is … it’s a sponge, the one you’d use for washing frying pans and such. I’m attaching a photo of it.
